Where to buy the Moto Z, Moto Z Force & Moto Z Play

The Moto Z and Moto Z Play is available at Verizon and, soon, unlocked from Motorola.

Motorola's Moto Z and Moto Z Force have been available exclusively at Verizon since late July as Droid Editions — the Z for $26 a month, or $624 outright, and the Force for $30 a month, or $720 outright. (To recap, the Force has a larger-capacity battery, higher-resolution camera and an unbreakable "ShatterShield" over the display.)

Now there's a new device, the Moto Z Play, that is coming to Verizon on September 8 as yet another Droid Edition, for $17 per month, or $408 outright. It's a much more affordable handset than the Z and Z Force, but retains all of the high marks of those devices, including support for Moto Mods.

Verizon is the sole carrier that sells the Moto Z, Moto Z Force, and Moto Z Play at the moment. While the SIM slot comes unlocked for other carriers, the phones are Verizon-branded and come with lots of bloatware.

If you want more of the traditional Moto experience, you can also order the Moto Z Droid Edition, Moto Z Force Droid Edition on the MotoMaker website, which includes the ability to configure various different Mods, choose colors and more.

Starting in October, you'll be able to order unlocked GSM-based versions of the Moto Z and Moto Z Play (the Force is staying a Verizon exclusive forever, it appears), that will work on a number of international carriers, with support for more than a dozen LTE bands. Stay tuned for more information on that as it becomes available.
