Burn rubber in #Drive, a stylish and perilous endless driving game!

The endless runner genre is a mobile gaming mainstay because those types of games are easy to jump in and play and can be really hard to put down. Each time you play you're battling against the game and also your previous record as you try to push further.

This week, I offer up #Drive, a very stylish endless runner that puts you behind the wheel of cars that have apparently had their brakes cut.

There's a few aspects here that really help #Drive stand out from both other driving games and other endless runner games. I'll start with the art style which offers great attention to detail — the maps feel lively and there's a good variety of vehicles available to try and unlock. The touch controls for steering work exactly how you'd expect them to and before too long you're drifting through corners and dodging oncoming traffic while chasing your goals.

What is your goal? To keep driving, of course. You'll need to do some rolling pitstops in gas stations, repair shops and special upgrades that help keep your car on the road — while also hitting up some donut shops to keep the fuzz off your tail.

The gameplay is so fun to look at that it took me an embarrassingly long time to realize everything included in the HUD at the bottom that lets you know when pitstops are coming up. You get audio clues for gas stations which are most importantly — and there's a quick-talking sidekick providing ongoing commentary who lets you know every time you miss a gas station. This is all for the best because you can only see 50 meters ahead with the short draw distance likely there for performance reasons.

As you drive you'll want to collect bottle caps which can be spent to unlock new cars and paint jobs. You also collect postcards as you visit towns during your run which are spent to unlock the later maps. It's a nice system that offers rewards both for being risky and aggressively collecting caps while also requiring you to play smart if you want to complete a run.

If you're interested in taking #Drive for a spin, you'll be happy to know it's free to play with no in-app purchases and a few video ads scattered between runs.
